College Scholarships

The Douglas J. Gilchrist Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Gilchrist Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1991 by a bequest of Douglas J. Gilchrist, a long-time and active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. It provides scholarships to active members of Westminster to assist in college expenses at accredited institutes of higher learning. Applicants are judged on character, scholarship ability, financial need, and community and church service. Applications are due in early May. The church's Scholarship Committee reviews applications, then makes recommendations to the Session of the church.

In 2008, a total of $16,000 was awarded to eight church members: (front row) Kevin Muldoon (Syracuse University), Catherine Trapani (Cazenovia College), , Michael Fandrich (SUNY-Geneseo), Victor Fandrich (SUNY-Albany), (back row)  Paul Dungey (Empire State College), Bruce Blodgett (Empire State College), Eric Mazzeo (SUNY Geneseo), and (not pictured) Todd Brechue (Cayuga Community College).

Gilchrist Scholarship Application is available here: Gilchrist Scholarship Application. Please print and complete the form, and return it with all other required documentation to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Scholarship Committee, 17 William St, Auburn, NY 13021. The next round of applications will be for the 2009-2010 school year. Application deadline to be announced in the spring of 2009.

Kilborne Scholarship Fund
These funds provide tuition assistance at the Westminster Nursery School for children in need. Recommendation is made by the nursery school director to the Westminster Nursery School Board for the Westminster Nursery School Scholarship.
For the Paula Windsor Scholarship (supported by the Pentecost Offering and private donations) and the Kilborne Scholarship (established by a bequest from the family of Kristen Kilborne), the nursery school board makes a recommendation to the church session for approval of the scholarship.
