Westminster's Boards and Committees 2008
The work of the church is done by many people, and much of it takes place "behind the scenes." The Board of Deacons is comprised of 12 members whose service is to minister to those in need, both within and outside the church. Judi Stephens is the President of the Board of Deacons in 2008. The Session is comprised of 12 elders who provide spiritual leadership and also conduct the business of the church. Jill Fandrich is the 2008 Clerk of Session, and Earle Schemerhorn is Assistant Clerk. The moderator of Session is the Rev. Phil Windsor. Amy Baliva is the Church Treasurer.
The following is a brief description of the Session committees at Westminster, and their 2008 moderators and committee responsibilities:
Christian Education (Candy Dominick, Moderator)
Responsible for the church's education programs for all ages, including Sunday School, Adult Forum, midweek programs, leadership development, and nursery school. This committee also oversees the Child Safety Policy.
Finance (Mike Trapani, Moderator)
Responsible for the church's financial decisions, including budget, financial policies and procedures, investments, insurance, etc.
Membership and Evangelism (Marilyn Lavin, Moderator)
Responsible for nurturing and developing the church's membership, for encouraging new members, and for internal and external communications (newsletter, web page, publicity).
Mission and Stewardship (George Hiza, Moderator)
Responsible for guiding the church in mission (local, national, and global) and stewardship of our time, talents, and financial resources.
Personnel (Molly Trapani, Moderator)
Responsible for handling all matters pertaining to our paid church staff.
Property (Jerry Kennedy, Moderator)
Responsible for the care and maintenance of our building and grounds.
Worship and Chancel (Audrey McNally, Moderator)
Responsible for planning and overseeing all aspects of worship, including the music programs, the sacraments, and special services.
Nominating (Dick Tuxill, Moderator)
Responsible for encouraging able and willing members to answer the call to leadership on our church boards.
Scholarship (Monta Faye Tuxill, Moderator)
Responsible for determining appropriate awards of Douglas Gilchrist Scholarships.
